David Bowie(데이빗 보위) - Life on Mars?

올해 3월, 

민간기업인 SpaceX 에서 팔콘헤비 로켓을 쏘아올렸고

테슬라 로드스터에 탑승한 스타맨을 화성으로 보내는데 성공했다.

보조로켓들은 맥없이 바다로 추락하는 것이 아니라 역추진을 이용해 지정된 위치에 안착했다.

 

소련과의 경쟁에서 이기기 위해 어마어마한 새턴V로켓으로 사람을 달에 보내고,

영화에서나 보던 우주선을 우주왕복선이라는 형태로 개발해 낸 미국은 금방이라도 태양계를 누빌 것만 같았지만,

지금은 예산문제로 우주왕복선들을 차례대로 퇴역시킨 후  우주에 사람보내는 일은 러시아의 소유즈호가 전담하고 있는 상황이고

희망과 꿈의 상징인 케이프 커내버럴은 인공위성만을 쏘아올리는 기지로 전락해버렸다.

 

그러는 도중 일론 머스크가 다시한번 사람들의 꺼져가던 꿈과 희망의 불씨를 켰다.

그가 보여준 일련의 쇼는 트럼프 선거캠프의 구호인 "Make America Great Again"과 비슷하다.

그는 이미 과거에 했었던 일이지만 후대 사람들이 머뭇거리던 일을 직접 보여줌으로써 사람들의 마음을 움직였다.

 

물론 실상은 그도 사업가이므로 투자를 유치하기 위해서 사람들이 혹할 이벤트를 준비해야 했고

그에 적합한 아이템으로 스타맨을 화성으로 보내는 장면을 연출했을 뿐이다.

그러나 이 이벤트는 

외적인 부분에서 혁신이 없는 오늘날을 살아가는 현대인에게

지난 날의 영광을 잊지않고 있는 어른들에게

찬란한 미래를 꿈꾸는 학생들에게

다시 한 번 도전과 용기를 주었고 두려워하는 이에게 겁먹지 말라는 메세지(Don't Panic)를 남겼다.

 

 

비록 테슬라가 현재 힘든 상황에 있고

일론 머스크 역시 지탄을 받고 있지만

그를 응원하고 지지한다.
