조르바는 주인공에게 책은 쓸데없으니 불태워 버리고,

삶과 직접 부딪혀 경험을 통해 지혜를 얻어야 한다고 말한다.

젊은 시절, 

어떤 이는 인생을 즐기면서 살고

어떤 이는 그런 유혹을 양보한 채 묵묵히 공부하고 일한다.

어떤 이는 이도저도 아닌 채 산다.

그들이 늙고나서

어떤 이는 넉넉치는 않지만 젊은 시절 후회가 없었기에 행복하다.

어떤 이는 일찍이 노력해왔기에 현재 행복하게 살고있다.

어떤 이는 여전히 이도저도 아닌채 '젊은 시절 어떤 것이라도 좀 열심히 해볼걸'이라는 후회로 가득하다.

조르바처럼 삶을 통해 지경을 넓히던

주인공 선생처럼 책을 통해 지혜를 갈구하던

시간은 흘러간다.

어떻게 살던

나중의 결과물이 괄목한것이 아니더라도

후회가 없다면 그걸로 된 것이다.

나는 어떻게 살것인가.

시간을 어떻게 쓸것인가.
